"In 1893, Swami Vivekananda borrowed money and journeyed to America to speak at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago. Vivekananda ran out of money in Chicago. Lost, and not knowing where the Parliament of Religions was, he sat on a bench to meditate. Deep in meditation, a stately looking women stood before him and offered help. With her kind assistance he found himself standing before this Parliament of curious Christians.
Vivekananda spoke without holding back, "The Mother of all the world's religions sends greetings to you." The historical precedent being set, he proceeded with; "The Vedas teach us that Creation is without beginning or end. Believe Nothing Blindly - Direct Experience is The Truth." This fundamental lesson of individual experimentation is the basis of The Teachings of the Sadhana Society.
As told by Swami Shanakarananda.
