Buddha was a revolutionary! Contrary to the
culture of his times, he did not believe that
one had to matriculate through the cast system
from untouchable to Brahmin, to progress towards
Enlightenment. Buddha introduced simple, practical
down to earth practices and ways of living,
that allowed any human to directly access the
awakened state. The Sadhana Society also embraces
this direct, no - frills approach to enlightenment.
We believe that Buddha was right. That there
are simple, straight forward insights and practices
that can make enlightenment available right
here, right now.
In 1983, I was clearing the land for the Sadhana
Society's new home, when I came upon a buried
headless statue. Curious, I excavated further
and realized I had found the trunk of a statue
of Buddha. My curiosity piqued, I searched for
Buddha's head and found it a few feet away.
I saw this as an affirmation of our intention
to create the Sadhana Sanctuary on this Sacred
Mountain. We knew then that this statue would
become part of our shrine to this spiritual
path. Shakyamuni Buddha taught a spiritual connection
for all of humanity.
As told by Kerani Marie Devi.
